Marketing tips for sunglass vendors at special events



The principals of our company started the sunglass business from the ground floor up.  Starting out in flea markets, stepping up to festivals, fairs and shopping malls, and finally making the giant leap forward into the wholesale arena.  Displaying your sunglasses effectively is the key to your success.  One formula for success is setting up your display with one or two 7’- 8’ tables that are 3’-4’ deep in a 10’ x 10’ or 10’ x 20’ space.  Next, place 3 - 1â€? x 10â€? pieces of fir or any good quality wood shelving the length of your table in tiers on raised blocks the height of your display boxes.

You should be able to tier your display so as to have 4 levels of display boxes per table.  An attractive table cloth draped over the wood boards makes a nice backdrop for the display boxes, which are 6â€? wide, 10 ½â€? deep by 3 ½â€? high.  On an 8’ table, you can display 64 different styles of, “as compared toâ€? sunglasses.  Our experience has shown that the larger selection of styles you display, the better you do exponentially.  In other words, if on a given day you displayed 64 styles and did $400.00 in sales, compared to instead displaying 128 styles, you might do $1,200.00 in sales instead of an expected $800.00.  Sunglasses are one of the very few products where the margin of profit is this large, typically 550% - 800%, yet producing remarkably fast sales.  In our selling ventures we have occasionally done over $3,000.00 in sales at State Fairs and special event.
