Faux Rhinestones? What is that?
I have only heard the word Faux used to describe three things. Faux Leather, Faux Fur, and Faux Paux, which between you and me is something I commit quite often! But I have now heard the word Faux used to describe something else, Faux Rhinestones. When I first heard that term I thought, “what are Faux Rhinestones?” I mean rhinestones are not items that are generally expensive or hard to get, right? These days’ rhinestones are on everything from clothes to cell phones and even IPods. I have a young daughter so between the two of us we have rhinestones on just about everything we own. Now one thing I have noticed with all of these rhinestone covered items, is that they have a tendency to fall off after time. The item just doesn’t look the same once a few of the rhinestones are missing. So that’s where “Faux Rhinestones” come in. The term Faux Rhinestones was actually adopted for a painting technique. With Faux Rhinestone Sunglasses, they make a pattern of small drilled holes and then use a special type of paint to fill in the hole. The paint that is used catches the light and sparkles just like a real rhinestone. The really nice thing about Faux Rhinestones is they will not fall off like real rhinestones.
